Who are we?

THE STUDENTS:

Hi, I’m Jasmine.

I’m a student from 4 Human sciences and Modern Languages. 

My hobbies are horseback riding, listening to music and meeting friends.

I like riding on a beach on a horse like you see in the movies. My music taste is very variating and my friends are in some ways nothing like me, but that’s a positive thing.

I like my friends a lot, but I also love meeting new friends.

I like learning new languages, especially English.

Hello everybody! I'm Gwerne Depoorter, I'm 15 years old and I'm super excited for this project!

I think going to Australia is an experience that you can get only once in a lifetime!

In my daily life I like playing the piano/harp/... And I also like going horseback riding! I also like to go out with friends in my spare time.

Hello, I am Maaike Kesteloot and I’m 15 years old. I only have one hobby and that’s the youth movement: chiro, which takes place every Sunday. In my spare time I often meet with friends or I go out with my parents. My biggest interest is fashion, when I am bored, I watch a lot of online stores. This was some information about myself,  I hope you liked it.

Hi. I am Isaline and I am fifteen years old.

I really love school and reading books. I have a few hobbies. I like swimming and I practice archery. I am fond of music and my favourite singer is Shawn Mendes. Another hobby is cooking. 

At home, we have three cute dogs and I adore them. I am a calm person and I am interested in learning new things, I am very curious. I am excited to go to Australia, it is an amazing chance that we get!

I'm Illissia and I'm 15 years old. I am from 4HUMT ( human sciences and modern languages).

I am very thrilled to be a part of this project. I like travelling - I have already been on a plane, but going to Australia will be a whole other journey.

In my free time I like listening to music and watching movies but to learn about new cultures is very exciting to me, and Australia seems like the place to do so with its rich history. I'm very interested in learning about history from other countries. It's an experience that is quite unique and so I'm very honoured to be a part of this project.

My name is Aïsha Saththar and I am 16 years old. I have a little brother and sister.

I live in Kortrijk. I don’t have any hobbies, but I like to spend my time with my family and friends. I am very social and I love playing with kids. I work very hard because I want to achieve my goals.

My dreams are becoming a paediatrician and helping as a doctor in Africa or Asia. Another dream is travelling around the world in my free time.

Hi! I’m Axana.

 I’m a student from 4HUMT (Human sciences, modern languages). I’m a girl. I like watching movies and I love ice-skating. I’m sometimes adventurous but most of the times I’m very shy. I love meeting new people and I’m interested in history especially history from world wars.

I love travelling and walking around in the nature. I have a little dog, a pomerian. Sometimes I can be very outgoing when I’m with my friends. I love animals and the people around me.

Australia is a big opportunity to meet new people and to make new friends. We can learn a lot about the culture and the people there.

My name is Melissa Lutonadio I’m 15 years old and I’m a student  in 3 human sciences and modern languages.

My hobbies are playing basketball and photography. I have played basketball since I was 8 years old. I’m also really interested in photography, it’s not really my hobby but it soon will be. In my free time I like dancing and  listening music a lot. My favourite music genres are pop and hip-hop.

I love learning other languages new languages. At the moment I’m learning Portuguese because half of my family speak Portuguese.

THE TEACHERS


Our names are Mariska Tytgat and Pauline Wijnakker. We both teach English at  athena campus Pottelberg, Kortrijk (Belgium) and we are the two teachers who had the crazy idea of organising an exchange project with Collie Senior High School, Australia in 2015. We say crazy because the idea alone sounded impossible. But after talking to and brainstorming with the parents and teachers of Collie Senior High School, who organise a similar school trip to Europe every two years, we started thinking: If they can do it, why can’t we.  We started discussing the project with our principals and with other staff members and we decided to dive in head first.

It has already been a challenge, but we are still very enthusiastic. This project hasn’t only allowed us to learn more about The Great war, but also about ourselves, our colleagues, the students and their parents. Everything we have done so far has been a team effort. We are greatly committed to the project and we would love to see it continued for many years to come. Hopefully, it will again be an amazing trip for all involved. There is no doubt in our minds that both our students and we will be richer for the experience. Therefore we would already like to sincerely thank all the people for their support in helping us get there.
